Westminster is a member of the Tropical Forest Trust (TFT) and sources all teak from TFT supported forests. Westminster pays a financial contribution to the TFT to support its activities, enabling specfic forests to become independantly certified as well-managed under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) scheme.
The TFT organisation founded in 1999 promotes the link between business and responsible forest management. TFT works to eliminate tropical hardwood from unknown, controversial and potentially illegal sources, and replaces it with wood from TFT forest projects and FSC certified forests. Consequently protecting natural forests from unsustainable practices and educating forest managers, wood product businesses and wood users thus demonstrating their long term economic viability.
As the planet heats, tropical forest conservation is a highly cost effective opportunity to mitigate global warming. TFT supports conservation through improved management of tropical forests for the good of their indigenous people, animals, plants and the overall environment whilst linking the output to responsible organizations in the production and eventual retailing of finished goods. |
